Since these two are right next to each other, I'm including them as one write-up.

Suidoubashi

This section is two stops over from Akihabara. The only place of left of interest (to me, anyway) is a manga store, so it's up to you whether to stop by on the way to Jinbocho.

Getting To Suidobashi From Akihabara

If you're down with the train system then you don't have to approach it from this way. This is just how I swing through town.
  1. At JR Akihabara station, get on the Soba line. Make sure it's headed in the direction of Mitaka or Shinjuku.
  2. The first stop should be Ochanomizu. The next one will be Suidobashi. Get off.
If you're gonna visit the manga store here I recommend the west exit, otherwise if you're going to Jimbocho take the east exit.

To Comic House 1

  1. Hmm, this is gonna be kinda vague. Take the west exit, and go to the side that is NOT next to a bridge and NOT in the direction of the Tokyo Dome. Got that? Good.
  2. Look down the streets for one with a Cafe Veloce (sign in English on the side of the building) on the left side. Go down that street until you come to an intersection with an AM/PM mini-mart on your right.
Down one of the side streets on your right you should see Comic House on the left hand side.

Comic House 1
Comic House sell regular and hentai manga, magazines, and novels for retail price.

Comic House

Good-bye Anime House

Well, there was once another bookstore in Suidobashi, a beautiful bookstore, one that sold nothing but hentai reading materials. Oh the memories... of walking in, and having my mind assaulted by the overwhelming amount of porn. Sadly, the store ain't there no mo'. I think it moved to somewhere else, but I couldn't be bothered to check. Yet all is not lost, for there are other stores elsewhere in this guide that keep up the struggle to supply the masses (well, men anyways) with that vital resource. Fight on!

Back to the Train Station

  1. From Comic House 1, head right towards the end of the street (don't worry, it's not far).
  2. At the end of the street, take the cross street right.
  3. Take the first left. You should soon find yourself at the east exit of the train station.
Go where you wanna go, baby.

Jinbocho

To get to this section of Tokyo, you need to take the subway instead of the JR line. Jinbocho's specialty is books. They have many a bookstore, including used bookstores. Besides books, the only other place worth noting is an anime/manga junk store.

Getting To Jinbocho From Suidoubashi

There are other ways to get to Jinbocho, but in my shopping forays I usually hopped over from Suidobashi.
  1. From the JR Suidoubashi station, take the east exit.
  2. Once outside the ticket gate, go out and head left.
  3. Continue until you come to a large intersection. On the other side is the subway entrance for the Mita line (as a reference, you should also be see a Kentucky Fried Chicken near that corner).
  4. Cross the street and take the subway entrance down. Jinbocho will be one stop down on the Mita-bound train.
Once you arrive at Jinbocho subway station, take the A7 exit up to the street.

To Comic Takaoka

  1. Once you've exited onto the street, head right.
  2. At the first intersection, turn right and head down the street.
Comic Takaoka will be on the right-hand side.

Comic Takaoka
The ground floor sells various comics, books, and magazines. The basement floor carries ladies' comics, and the second floor carries hentai manga. Everything is retail price.

Comic Takaoka

Good-bye Marugeya

Once upon a time in Jinbocho there used to be a game-goods store called Marugeya. Sadly, Marugeya is no more. What a damn shame. Oh cruel fate, have you no mercy?

To RB Wonder

  1. From Comic Takaoka, continue right down the street until you come to an intersection with a McDonalds on the left-hand side of the street.
  2. Cross over to the McDonalds, and go down the side street to the left of it.
  3. Turn left at the first side street.
RB Wonder will be on the right-hand side.

RB Wonder
There'll be a small bookstore, and a set of stairs to the right of it. RB Wonder is on the second floor, and sells, for lack of a better description, "recycled shit." Kinda like Mandarake I guess, but way smaller. We're talkin' old posters, vinyl soundtracks, manga, books, etc. Prices range from dirt cheap to obscene, depending on what you're buying.

RB Wonder

To Comic Station

  1. From RB Wonder, head left back to the main street.
  2. At said street head right, back to the corner of McDonalds.
  3. Cross the street back to the corner you were at previously.
  4. Instead of heading right (back to the subway entrance), continue straight down the street.
  5. At the next corner you'll see Shosen Book Market.
Comic Station is on the 4th floor of Shosen Book Market.

Comic Station
They sell a decent selection of regular manga, all retail price. Nothing special really, but since we're hitting most of the manga stores anyhow...

To Tokiya Bookstore

  1. From Shosen Book Market, continue right down the street.
  2. Take the first sidestreet right.
Tokiya Bookstore will be at the corner of the first intersection.

Tokiya Bookstore
Once known as Kantamu Mangabu, this place is now called Tokiya Bookstore. Whatever, as far as I can tell it still sells the same shit. Tokiya carries an assortment of used manga, books, magazines, LPs, even a few LDs. There's a little bit of porn mixed in there.

Tokiya

To Shinjuku Bookstore

  1. From Tokiya Bookstore, head left around the corner.
Shinjuku Bookstore will be a little ways down on the left. Enter and take the stairs down.

Shinjuku Bookstore
Another fine purveyor of porn. Our readers will want to check out the hentai manga, magazines, and doujinshi available. Prices are all retail.

Shinjuku Bookstore

To Suzurando

  1. From Shinjuku Bookstore, head left down the street.
  2. Take the first intersection right.
  3. You'll soon come to another intersection. This time head left.
  4. Head all the way street until you come to the main thoroughway. Along the way are various minor bookstores, some of which may appeal to those more prurient interests.
Suzurando will be on the left.

Suzurando
Suzurando carries a small selection of regular manga, books and magazines, and a larger selection of hentai/live-action manga, books, and magazines. Why is the porn section bigger than the regular section? The world will never know. Suzurando even accepts credit cards, although you'll have to wait briefly while they run upstairs to process the card.

Suzurando Books

To Keel

  1. From Suzurando, head left down the street.
Keel will be on the right, shortly before you come to the end of the street. On the ground floor is a small video store of the adult variety, and to the left of it is a set of stairs. Keel is on the 3rd floor.

Keel
This place used to be called D-Books, now it's called Keel. Their selection seems to have improved. They carry magazines, books, doujinshi, hentai manga, and maybe some other shit I can't think of right now. Prices are retail.

Manga Bookstore Keel

Back to the Subway Entrance

  1. From Keel, head right to the corner.
  2. At the corner, turn right and head down the street.
The subway entrance will be on your right.
